The emotions we experience each day are not just fluctuations in mood—they are important signs that reveal the direction of our inner thoughts. Especially during difficult times like the COVID-19 pandemic, feelings such as anger, sadness, apathy, or anxiety often arise. But in those moments, without fail, negative thoughts are swirling in our minds.
For example:
• “I can’t do this anymore.”
• “I’ll only fail again.”
• “I’m not worth anything.”
• “That person doesn’t understand me.”
These thoughts are not from God. They are illusions we’ve created from within ourselves, not the truth God speaks over us. God is always speaking truth into our hearts.
The thoughts God gives us sound like:
• “You are my beloved child.”
• “Your life has a purpose and a future.”
• “I am always with you.”
We need to open our hearts to these truths. But too often, we shut them out and become trapped in a self-made reality. When we find ourselves emotionally down, we must take it as an opportunity to reflect: What have I been thinking about?
That’s when we go back and remember the amazing things God has done in our lives. We listen to the testimonies of others. We read and hear God’s Word again. And as we do, the negative thoughts inside us are replaced with God’s beautiful, powerful words. Our emotions shift toward hope and strength.
Emotions are not the enemy. They are signs that help us realign with God’s truth. When we feel low, instead of letting it fester, we can treat it as a chance to return to God’s voice, His love, and His promises.
As we do, our lives will become more deeply rooted in God’s guidance, and we will see His wonderful works unfolding through us.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6–7
