Trust in God’s guidance and take a step forward, even with limited resources and despite societal norms to pursue what truly suits and fulfills you.
They brought the jars to the widow and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
2 Kings 4:5–6, NIV
The decision to leave behind everything you know and start anew can be a daunting one. It’s easy to get trapped in the mindset that change is bad and that sticking to what you’ve always known is the safe route. But what if there’s a better way? What if the path that seems uncertain and risky is actually the one that leads to the life you were meant to live?
The story of the poor woman and the vessel of oil in the Bible illustrates this point perfectly. When Elisha instructed her to fill up a vessel with the small amount of oil she had, it must have seemed like a hopeless task. But despite the odds, she trusted in God’s guidance and kept filling up vessel after vessel until she had enough to pay off her debts.
Imagine the sheer disbelief and wonder she must have felt as the oil kept pouring and pouring, filling up every last vessel until it was gone. It was a true miracle, and one that wouldn’t have happened if she had given in to the doubts and fears that surely must have been present.
In our own lives, we often face similar doubts and fears. It’s easy to listen to the naysayers and skeptics who tell us that change is impossible, that we’re not good enough or talented enough to pursue our dreams. But just like the poor woman with the vessel of oil, we have a choice. We can choose to trust in God’s guidance and take that first step forward, even when it seems impossible.
Yes, there may be failures and setbacks along the way. There may be times when it seems like we’re running on empty, with nothing left to give. But if we keep pressing forward, if we keep trusting in God’s plan for our lives, then miracles can happen. Doors can open that we never thought possible. And the life we were meant to live can finally come into focus.
So don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Don’t let fear or doubt hold you back. Instead, choose to trust in God’s guidance and take that first step forward, no matter how small it may seem. Because who knows that small step could lead to a miracle beyond your wildest dreams?
